The writing process! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

NO --- that was NOT pieces of sod I spotted the other day. That is artificial turf!!!! I get that sod has seams and it comes in rolls, and pieces are identical. No, if you look closely at the picture of the "sod", it's in big chunks and will not grow. But my thought was - do they know that? Unless this is a new kind of sod!

ARTIFICIAL sod

Another fun and productive day at the retreat house! I'm having to do some paperwork and prepping for the next writing assignment, and the clock is ticking until I need ...

Retreat at the Farm - Day One from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Thanks for the vinegar tip! I need a spray bottle for the vinegar to make it easier to apply. And I know where to get a great one. I've heard that before, but never got myself organized to make that happen.

Shoot --- something bizarre happened in the morning and I was going to tell you about it, but it's gone! Maybe by the time I finish writing this morning, it'll come back to me. Anyway, I finished getting everything ready and packed it all into the car. There actually wasn't too much this time. Some items ...

Quilt Retreat - Day Two from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Significant progress is being made at the quilt retreat!! Thankfully, the temperature is dropping, so it's much more comfortable. I don't think any building was comfortable the previous day. Yesterday, we were nice and comfy, and with lower temperatures today, we may not even need the AC. OK, so that's me, but the others may feel differently. I actually felt slightly chilly in the room this morning!

Shoot, I meant to take a picture of the sewing room, but I'll save that for tomorrow.

I started the day (after several hours of sewing) with a walk ...

Quilt Retreat - Day One from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I got up bright and early (OK—the usual time) and prepped to come to a quilting retreat. I know—the timing wasn't the best, so soon after Quilt Canada, but it is what it is. I had an opportunity to visit a brand new retreat house, and well, when opportunity knocks, you need to take advantage of the situation.

I used those packing skills I learned at Quilt Canada to put everything into the car.

A few things for the retreat

I have probably brought the least amount of stuff ever to a retreat. A sewing machine, two ...

How to Make a Mondo Bag from Quiltnotes All Blogs

These bags are really fun to make. I first posted this tutorial in January of 2018. For Christmas the month before, I made 14 of these bags, one for each of the women in my family. They were a big hit.

In July of 2019, after a subscriber asked me about the lining, I added a video I found that explained the lining a little better. It is included later in the tutorial.

In This Tutorial

Here are the steps for making a Mondo Bag:

  1. Gather your supplies and fabric
  2. Sew outer fabric panels
  3. Assemble outer shell
  4. Assemble lining shell ...

A donation quilt up next from Northern Deb Quilts

Isn't this ABC fabric adorable? I was cleaning and straightening my stash when I came across this older Holly Holderman fabric panel from Lakehouse.
I have an assortment of coordinating fabrics too. I've been thinking of making a few small donations quilts for the hospital. They give a blanket or quilt and a teddy bear to each child that is staying overnight for the first time. I've donated a few before but this last week was the first time someone I knew, would receive one.

Charlie got pretty sick this past week. He was kept overnight...and ...

{ A Quick Project- the Mondo Bag} from {The Sweetest Dreams}

I attended my first quilting guild meeting last month and saw several ladies with these amazing patchwork bags. I inquired about an available pattern and was told that most of the guild members have made a Mondo bag. Some have made many.

Quiltsmart offers a pattern and fusible interfacing kit that make the construction of the bags so easy. Two charm packs and some yardage are needed.

This is a very roomy bag. Great for a beach tote or even a diaper bag. Quiltsmart even offers a smaller option , the Midi Bag.  I've already got two more planned-one for ...
